If you want to work as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in the UK, you will need to be registered on the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Register of ADIs. The only exception is if you hold a trainee licence to give instruction which is issued by the ADI Register. Once you are registered, an ADI may work for a Driving School or work for themselves . Our website will tell you about being an ADI and the tests you will need to pass.

An ADI is a person who has passed all three parts of the ADI qualifying tests and is currently registered with the DVSA. Before you can apply to join the ADI Register a Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) must pass three qualifying tests:

Part 1 Theory Test
 Part 2 Driving Ability
Part 3 Instructional Ability

To be accepted onto the Register Of Approved Driving Instructors you must hold a full UK or European Union/European Economic Area unrestricted car drivers licence. This must have been held for a total of at least four out of six years prior to applying to the ADI Register and have not been disqualified from driving at any time in the four years prior to be entered onto the ADI Register. You must also complete a criminal records check BEFORE applying to start the qualification process. Once you have a completed disclosure then you may apply to the ADI Register.

At TX Driver Training we realise that most people wishing to become an Approved Driving Instructor may already be in employment and so our ADI courses are not rigid; we will do our best to tailor each ADI course to suit you.

All your training will be conducted by an experienced ADI training instructor. We will also supply all training aids needed for the theory and hazard perception tests. Your driving ability and instructional ability tests will be conducted in one of our dual controlled cars, so that when you sit a test you will have driving experience and full knowledge of the car you are driving.
